What is Missionfest 2018?
Missionfest 2018 will take place 20th – 24th June and is an opportunity to gather with over 100 others near Dresden in south-eastern Germany to learn about and experience being on mission in Western Europe. We are partnering with Eckstein Gemeinde, a Newfrontiers church in Dohna, Germany to encourage and support them. Our goal for the week will be to envision, empower and equip delegates with practical tools to enable us to reach out to others with the love of Christ.
What will we do?
In the mornings we will have times of worship and practical teaching related to church planting and evangelism at the festival base in Dohna.
In the afternoons and early evenings we will travel into Dresden and the surrounding towns where we will undertake a wide variety of evangelistic activities to proclaim the gospel and publicise the church plant.
Every evening we have a campfire on site.
On the Friday afternoon we will go white water rafting nearby.
On the weekend other church planters from across Germany and some from the Ukraine will join us for teaching, worship and hanging out!
Do I need to speak German?
A working knowledge of the German language will be useful – but not essential! The programmed activities will be fully translated between English / German. Although much of the local population have some English language ability, for the outreach activities we will ensure teams have a good mix of people who are confident in speaking German and are able to provide some translation.
Where is it?
We will be based at the castle, Dohna.
This is a large property with grounds overlooking the small town of Dohna a few miles outside of Dresden.
How can I get there?
You will need to make your own transport arrangements to Dohna.
Dresden has an international airport with direct flights from London City and Heathrow. There are also good links by coach and train from other airports such as Berlin, Leipzig and Prague, which may offer cheaper flight alternatives.
Dohna has a regular train service from Dresden main station, with a change of trains at Heidenau. The whole journey takes approximately 25 minutes. The Missionfest base is a 10 minute walk from Dohna station. For further rail information see the train service website: www.bahn.de (English language version is available).
Travel by road is also a possibility – Dohna is about 1,000km (621 miles) from Calais.
Where will I stay?
We are able to offer limited camping on site. This will be in large, shared, single-sex tents.
There are no hotels and B&Bs in Dohna but there is some accommodation in nearby Heidenau
What will I eat?
All delegates will be provided with lunch and an evening meal, starting with dinner on the evening of 20th June finishing on the evening of 24th June.
Additionally those delegates who choose to camp on site will receive a light breakfast each morning from 7.30am until the morning of 25th June.
What do I need to take with me?
If you are staying off site then you will simply need sufficient clothes and personal items to last you the week.
Camping delegates will also need to take – a roll mat to sleep on, a sleeping bag, a torch and a towel.
How much will it cost?
All delegates £80 each
Camping option has an additional cost of £50 per person
Additionally you will need sufficient Euros to travel between Dohna and Dresden each day. A return train ticket costs approximately 8 Euros per day
What about children?
Unfortunately, as this is a mission based week, we will not be able to offer any specific provision for children.
Children under 16yrs of age will not be able to be accommodated in the camping tents
Any delegates under 18 will need to be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
